The Medical Physics Training Conference, organised under project EMERALD in ICTP Trieste (September 1998) and the following 6 Training seminars in Ireland, France, Czech Republic, Sweden, Portugal and UK (2000 - 2001) revealed the need of a multilingual dictionary of terms used in Medical Physics. This was further confirmed by the use of the EMERALD training materials in some 65 countries around the world. 

The digital dictionary (e-DICTIONARY) was developed under the project EMIT. At the first instance it is based on 7 European languages (English, French, German, Italian, Swedish, Portuguese, Spanish) and reflects the initial partnership of EMERALD and EMIT projects. 

The first phase of the project included development of a software shell and collection of terms in English, covering the fields of Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy, MRI and Ultrasound Imaging. The collection of terms is translated into the first languages by selected specialists and updated by the whole EMIT and EMERALD Consortia. The shell of the e-Dictionary has been made together with the Inter-University Medical Physics Centre in Plovdiv. The digital dictionary translates between any two of the included languages. Additionally, the software shell will aim for potential translations to other languages.

* This installs the beta Dictionary on your PC.
PLEASE NOTE that the dictionary can be used only on PC type computers running Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT and XP.
* Select the two languages to translate from/to in the two small windows (left window is the source "from" language; right window is the destination "to" language.
* To search a word just scroll up/down the list of words in the large left window.
* The words in the Dictionary can only be searched from the list of words (you cannot type in your own word).
* The selected "from" words appears in the small left window and its translation appears in the small right window.
* To jump quickly to a particular letter of the alphabet type the letter in the small left window.
* Please allow some short time for loading of the particular language database When you changing the languages to translate.
