Closer Links with WHO
1st Global Forum on Medical Devices. The WHO has a
major initiative ‘The Global Initiative on Health
Technologies’ and IOMP both contributed to the
organising of the Forum and participated in the
1st Global Forum on Medical Devices, held in
Bangkok, Thailand in 2010. Dr Peter Smith gave an
invited presentation ‘Improving Access, Quality,
and Affordability of Medical Devices: The Role of
Professional Organisations.’ Two posters were also
displayed.br />
Other activities included reviewing and commenting on draft WHO documents; collaboration and joint activities at several meetings, especially at the World Congress 2012 at which 5 mini-symposia/workshops involve both IOMP and WHO, and have IOMP participated in several WHO meetings.
An updated action plan for 2013-2015 will be discussed with WHO and it is hoped to make a formal submission this year to WHO for IOMP to be recognised as a Nongovernmental Organisation (NGO) by WHO.
