IOMP AWARDS 2012

The IOMP Marie Skłodowska-Curie Award for 2012 has been given to Professor Charles A. Mistretta (the John R. Cameron Professor of Medical Physics and Radiology at the University of Wisconsin, USA) for a distinguished career contributing to the advancement of Medical Physics research and teaching.
Prof. Mistretta is one of the most prominent scientists in Medical Physics. He introduced a number of new imaging methods in X-ray and MR Imaging and pioneered the method and equipment for Digital Subtraction Angiography, which laid the foundations of contemporary digital fluoroscopy and radiography.
Alongside his extensive research Prof Mistretta has supervised some 30 PhD students. They have gone on to develop numerous clinically important imaging modalities such as spiral computed tomography (Kalender), magnetic resonance fluoroscopy (Riederer), thermoacoustic computed tomography (Kruger) and dual modality computed tomography/single photon emission computer tomography (Hasegawa).
Prof Mistretta has more than 120 invited presentations and visiting professorships to his credit.
He will receive his IOMP Award at the International Conference of Medical Physics, ICMP2013, Brighton, UK.

Dr Ahmed Meghzifene is the recipient of the IOMP Harold Johns Medal for excellence in teaching and leadership in medical physics education. Dr Ahmed Meghzifene was born in Algeria in 1954. After an engineering degree in 1981, he entered the field of radiation dosimetry and obtained his PhD in 1989. He was awarded a post-doc research grant in France (1989) and Canada (1991) in medical dosimetry. After an extensive involvement in the establishment of dosimetry and medical physics infrastructure in his home country, he joined the IAEA in 1997 as a radiation physicist in the Dosimetry & Medical Radiation Physics (DMRP) Section.
In 2007, he was appointed Section Head of DMRP. During the past 15 years, his profile has a dominant component of international activities, co-authoring publications and reports on radiotherapy physics and dosimetry. In the recent years, he has contributed to the promotion of the medical physics profession and supported education and training activities. He has published over 20 papers, 2 book chapters and delivered numerous key note talks at international conferences.
